... I'm wearing trouser socks!
[edit]
the trouser socks paid off! I was interviewed twice. The second interview was almost exclusively regarding my new hampshire experiences; it's a good thing I chose to wrestle with that demon ahead of time! I'll know something no later than December 2nd. Please keep praying! And, in the mean time, if you know of anyone that needs house cleaning, babysitting, etc, please let me know! Income is essential!

Square Watermelon
I'm at work, prepping for an interview this afternoon and getting stuff in line to apply for a job that I could possibly and likely really love, and I stumbled upon this:
Sometimes ingenuity requires you, in fact, to think inside the box.
Some people make me smile.

Been Tagged!
My sister Jes has tagged me! What else is there to do but play along??
*Here's how you play....once you have been tagged, you have to write a blog with ten random facts, habits, or goals about yourself. At the end, choose ten people to tag, listing their names and why you chose them; don't forget to leave a comment on their page letting them know "tag you're it". You cannot tag the original people/person back that tagged you first, but let them know when you have posted so they can read your blog.
- When I exaggerate I almost always incorporate the number "eight" into the sentence, even if it was just 3... or 7... or twenty. ie, "There were like 80 million customers!" If I try and use a different number I end up going back and restating the sentence to include an "eight." I'm ridiculous, I know.
- The texture of food is very crucial to me. I can't stand whole tomatoes solely because of their texture. It's the same thing with Apples. *shudders*
- I swing back and forth between an extrovert and introvert. Maintaining a balance between people and being alone is very, very necessary for me.
- One of my biggest pet peeves ever is when people say, "The Lord told me..." or anything like it. It makes me want to drop kick them (not very Christlike, am I? I'm working on that... ha)
- Junior highers are, to date, my favorite age group to work with. Contrary to popular belief, they're fairly easy to be with. Hyperactive? Sure, but oh so much energy and enthusiasm to enjoy!
- I have journal after journal of started-but-not-yet-finished writings. Every once in a while something comes to me on how to finish one of them. Those moments are a huge adrenaline rush. We're talking like roller coaster type adrenaline... hehe.
- If my work area is cluttered before I begin a project, homework, etc., I MUST clean before I start working on "it" or I can't concentrate.
- One of the things I need but I lack is a solid source of encouragement in my life. Because of this, I keep a "happyness" folder that stores all the little notes of encouragement I've received since my first or second year at Cornerstone. On a discouraging day I bust the folder out and read the notes. If you've written me a love-note in the past few years, chances are I still have it and it gets me through the gloomy days- thanks!!
- Of all my nicknames (not including "Asher" since everyone calls me that) "Ashlove" is my favorite. Jim VanStensel gave it to me the summer of '04. It's almost exclusively used by Jim and Deats. There's a killer story behind it, too. :-)
- My top three dreams in life are: 1) To adopt about six kids :-) 2) to launch a nonprofit organization to promote holistic health, life, and leadership development for older teens and twenty-somethings. 3) to learn to ride a bike
- no word yet on how Im going to balance dreams one and two. I'm assuming that I'll having a stellar, super-human husband or something... oh man... I get giddy just thinking about these dreams!! BRING IT ON... k, I'm done. hehe.

Awesome Autumn
Did you know that Ben & Jerry's has an online flavor generator?
It's pretty much fun.
Here's my newest recipe:
Awesome Autumn
Maple & Brown sugar ice cream
Pretzel bits
toffee
dark choc swirl
I'm not entirely sure how that would taste, but at the Well (in TC) I'm know for my amazing milkshake making abilities, and ice cream really isn't all that far from a milkshake, let's be honest.
Go to Ben & Jerry's website, dream up your ice cream, and then leave the name of your creation and the recipe here in the comments. Random? Yep. But I think it'll be fun :-)
Peace

What's your theological worldview? created with QuizFarm.com | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| You scored as Emergent/Postmodern You are Emergent/Postmodern in your theology. You feel alienated from older forms of church, you don't think they connect to modern culture very well. No one knows the whole truth about God, and we have much to learn from each other, and so learning takes place in dialogue. Evangelism should take place in relationships rather than through crusades and altar-calls. People are interested in spirituality and want to ask questions, so the church should help them to do this.

Ohh... Casey Truelove... you can see the catholic influence creeping in... :-)
Deats, how am I more fundamentalist than you and you more pentecostal than me? what up with that, yo?
In other news:
- I am freaking exhausted. And slightly grouchy because of it. 'Tis a good things deaty loooooves me... or I'd be on the street!
- I could go for some chocolate ice cream
- If I could get paid to read books I like that'd be the most amazing income ever. And then I could volunteer myself as a youth pastor!

lists of happiness
Recently life has been one crazy adventure with ups, downs, and loopdy-loops that rival the most intense rollercoasters. And I think I needed a dose of fun, despite all the pressures of life. So, yesterday DeAndra and I had, what we call, a "LAME day." It was a blast. We had lunch at my place, and I randomly discovered some extra money in my budget (where it appeared from, I have no idea!) so we went out and got our ears pierced. I got my second holes reopened and she got her cartiledge done. We then went and got shakes from frosty treat and came back to my place, watched a movie, made pizzas for dinner, and went off to Jacob's Well.
Honestly? It was the most fun I've had in TC for the LONGEST time. I know that I probably should have put the extra few dollars in the bank, but the bit of fun did my heart and soul wonders.
And then my exhausted self slept for 12 hours. 12 of them! With all the worries and stressors and expectations that have suddenly appeared in my life, I haven't been sleeping well. You know, wondering how I'm going to pay the bills, if this or that... questioning myself about this and that... I sometimes lay down for an entire night and feel, hour after hour, like I'm just on the brink of sleep, but that I'm still awake. Do you know what I'm talking about?
Well, I need to go get ready for work. Take care, friends. Don't forget to let go and have fun. It does the weary soul well!
This video makes me smile.
You can add to the list of happiness several awesome conversations at the Well tonight, along with a sing/dance-a-long to the temptations, Irish cream steamers with lots of whipped cream, lots of grilled cheese with a communal bowl of tomato soup for dipping, and a good dose of the Catechism... also at the Well... and you have one VERY happy Asher.
Is that redundant? Seeing that "ashar" is translated as "blessed" or "happy" you might have...
"one VERY happy blessed"
-or-
"one VERY happy happy"
hmmm...
Either way I am blessed and I am happy. And I am in awe with thanks to God for these couple days that have been an amazingly bright spot in a gray, gloomy, and challenging northern michigan winter!
Come, spring, come!!

Dreams
A lot has happened in the last few days! Most humorously would be a dream I had just yesterday.
Asleep on the floor, I dreamed that two men were after me most ardently. The ran after me and I took off, miraculously running just like everyone else would, and I flew up the stairs as though they didn't exist. It was sweet, I'm not gonna lie. Anyway, I get upstairs and make a dive for my dresser. Frantically, my hands grabbed for... my vitamin C. As quickly as I could manage I shoved as many tabs in my mouth as I could fit. My shakey, adrenaline filled hands sought to hid my bottle of vitamin C as they closed in behind me. I wrapped my body around the small bottle. Off they dragged me as I screamed, passionately and at the top of my lungs, "NOOOO! DON'T TAKE MY VITAMIN C!!!"
Yep. That's pretty much the weirdest moment of my week. Sheesh. What was I on?
I'm not sure, friends, I'm not sure...

=) I... like people...
=)
Today was such a good day. It was definitely a day where I would have rather been outside than inside working. But here are some outtakes from today while I was working @ Old Navy.
(while expaining pear & pesto pizza to barbie)
"People put pineapple & pear on pizza... wow... say that five times fast..."
me: "I smell like gas... (weird looks from coworkers) ...I mean gasoline"
(Im walking up to Jeremiah, moving my arms to the music)
Jeremiah: "what's that?'
me: that's me grooving to the music... it's hard to tell though, I have zero coordination to begin with
J: oh, I was going to say you looked like a fighting nun. (what?!)
me: a friend and I do a happy dance when we're in the car listening to the music (demonstration... in the middle of the store)
J: you... you need help...
me: well THAT goes without saying...
(Rochelle had just demonstrated her new & improved anorak folding technique and left me... it didn't go so well for me... so, over the employee walkies...)
me:I'm sad
random coworker: what happened?
me: (best servant impression, w/hint of play-shame) "mastaw, I have faiwld you.."
Rochelle: (not on walkie, from across the store) *loud laughter* (on walkie) "aawwww"
There are MANY more, but the last one Im going to share with you is this:
We find out it's this little girl's birthday. so, all the employees decide we should sing happy birthday to her. so we lined her exit and sang as she left and clapped and cheered. I think we royally freaked her out. It was great seeing her expression, though! go team ONO 2891, go!

I'm back...!
From forest-frolicking, ginormous daddy long-legs assassinating, galabanting racoons eating all our food, and the entertainment of Bob the Chipmunk, the welcoming committee of Fisherman's Island State Campground. And now that I've hurt your head with that rediculously running on run-on sentence, I've got nothing more to say than this:
Lindsey & I leave 8pm Thursday night for Chicago to see the Anathallo concert late Friday night. We'll get into Chicago around 1am Friday, crash for a few hours, go exploring and eating and picture-taking... and then to the concert. And then it's straight home to Kristin's after the concert so Linds and I can get some shut eye before getting up at 6am Chicago time to hit the road and return to TC so Linds can shoot a wedding (1pm) and I can get to work (3pm)... hehehe.
Finally... some adventure in my life. I'm lovin' it. AND... it's with Lindsey & Kristin. It doesn't get any better!
I'll share about camping... maybe... later... but I gotta go. Showers and soap enthusiastically call my name...
mmm... the smell of camp...

O Commander of Loudness
About 11pm last night Heather, Lindsey, and I ventured to Steak n' Shake for a midnight snack. When I'm exhausted, which I was (and am), I am slow and slightly less able to handle lots of stimuli.
I don't have much of a bubble. It was popped.
Our original waiter was a character, to say the least.
He came up to our booth, and I'm looking at Lindsey and Heather who are across from me, so I didn't see our waiter walking up. He sat down next to me... and by next to me, I mean our thighs were sharing booth space...
I looked over, shocked and fully over-stimulated. My face was enough to get the ladies laughing. He then rests his head on my shoulder. I felt like telling him, "Listen, mister, I know I'm a beautiful sungoddess, but I have standards."
I'm probably red at this point and definitely creeped-out. He made some comments about beautiful ladies, I tell him we weren't ready to order, and he gets up, shouts (loudly, mind you), "I'm sorry ladies, but I just can't sit with you in you booth." I gave him a look. His boss gave him a look. He disappeared for a few minutes.
Upon his return, he informs, "I won't be taking care of you tonight. I'm tired and I'm going to go home and get a couple beers." (looks over at me)
I'm thinking, Ooohhh, I'm really attracted now. Oh baby, oh baby...
An older woman finished waiting on us. My Prince Charming said he was going to go home, but we saw him scrubbing floors... hmmm...
Oh, Steak n' Shake! Thanks for the laughs.

Creepy Encounters: Installment #1
As I was walking into work today (Sunday) there was a minivan pulling out of a spot and turning to leave when the driver slowed the vehicle and rolled her window down. We had a conversation. It went something like this:
Random Lady: Hey! You work at Old Navy, don't you?
Asher: *confused* Yes, yes I do.
RL: Right, I saw you in there a few days ago *smiles*
A: *confused smile* (hoping she's going to ask about our return policy or something)
RL: Do you have Cerebral Palsy?
A: *mildly creeped out* Yeesss....
RL: So does my son! How old are you?
A: *wondering if I should answer, but slowly say* 23...
RL: My son's 18! Do you date?? Is it a challenge for you? (I kid you not folks!)
A: (thought process: run, run away!!) Well, it can be a challenge, yes (I'm use to answering 20 questions about my condition with strangers, but this is just weeeiiird)
RL: I just wish my son had someone to go on dates with. I feel so bad for
him on Friday nights. You could really understand him, you know?
A: (fully aware of what she wants, but completely avoiding it) Yeah, I probably could! *laugh, smile, loooong & ackward pause*
RL: *disappointed, but smiling* There's hope for you, hon! Have a good day!
A: *thoroughly creeped out* You too, ma'am. *walk into store*
She tried to set he & I up!! And, if the kid has any self-respect at all, he'd be mortified that his mother tried to set him up with some random girl because she has a disability and his mom feels bad for him!
Holy cow, this is near the top of my creepy encounters list!

ps- No, she did not show me her picture/give me any info... oi!

cabin fever...
for the A-, D types who thrive on relationships, 3 days without significan amounts of human interaction can be difficult, especially if you randomly get severely sick during this time and cant even get up to move...
I think I'm going a little batty...
I figured out a DIV layout for myspace today and Im pretty sure Im overly excited about it... it's so stinkin' sweet, though!!! I can't take credit for the layout itself, but Id never "installed" this type of stylesheet before, so Im pretty happy! The designer goes by "Markster" (click image for better, true-to-life, view)
Ohhh Keeeevin... I finally have ideas for my real website layout... and I lost your email addy... =)

"five"
I was tagged by Rachel Deater! Without further ado, 5 random/curious things about yours truly...
1) When I was 16 I was running an online ministry and publishing a newsletter that had subscribers all over the globe. Seriously. I even digitized it, at one point. I did all of this in secret from my parents. I'm such a rebel. lol. I think college killed my child-like faith; I wouldn't dream of being as daring to think I could run a ministry at 16 now. We closed our doors when I was just shy of my 18th and merged with my boyfriend's (at that time) ministry. It was just easier that way. I was (am!!) such a dork.
2) I, unlike the majority of my female comrades, do not have a dream wedding thought out. I use to think this meant I was "stable," ahem, but now I see it to be a way I've guarded my heart from what I may see as "the ultimate rejection." I have a few small ideas, now. But generally I think it depends on the man, too!!
3) I am wired weird. I realize that not all of this wiring was "meant to be," but I am, without a doubt, an odd-ball. I am an extroverted-introvert... or a introverted-extrovert. I literally cannot figure out what camp I belong to. Same with the love languages, and personality (although I am very ashamed to confess that I am, in fact, a "D" ... =-( )... the only thing I can say for sure is that I am an expessive expander, which makes me an amazing story-teller.
4) I hate almost every public teaching I've done. And yet, the majority of the mentors I've had over the years continue to cite my speaking & teaching abilities as one of my strongest gifts.
5) I give way above what I should. I have very little emotional attachment to anything aside from my writings, books, and photographs. But other than that, you want it? Chances are, I'll give it to ya.
I tag.... Kristin ;)

Nigel, Ninjas, & the Love of God
God loves me. Yes, yes He does. There isn't one thing I could do to change that in the least. I cannot improve or "backslide" in any amount to earn or lessen the amazing love that crafted the very pattern of my fingerprints.
Such a great truth... especially when you believe it. Tonight was amazing! God was whispering, dancing, shouting "I love you" in so many different ways I would have to have been deaf, blind, and unable to percieve at all in order to miss it. May I tell you of it?
This evening I attended college group at East Bay Calvary as I often do on Tuesday nights. There I got to see some amazing people I've been developing relationships with. During this time we had bible study, as we typically do... and I asked a question about 1 John 2:1 that I will never ask again... mostly because almost everyone looked at me with utterly confused looks and the college pastor and I could not communicate in the least. For the life of me, I cannot figure out what that man thinks of me... but I don't want to complicate things, so I've decided to not ask questions anymore... I've had far too much theological training to make sense to anyone but myself and a few of my peers... oi...
After that we broke up, as we always do girls/guys and during my small group time with some girls, I was able to use the truths Perini tried so desperately to get me to grasp (and I eventually did) to completely meet the needs of a woman in my group... it was amazing! And to think, the only way I could have helped her is by journeying back into my darkness as I have... it's worth it if I can help bring hope and light to someone's darkness, I tell ya. This week when the Well is open (thursday, probably) a few of us are going to make "truth cards" together... it shall be a good time...
Lindsey and I decided to make a movie (it's now almost 11pm... I love randomness) so we gather some troups and head out, looking for a restaurant that's open where we can eat and figure out our script...
I cannot tell you how outstanding this video is... it's called "top 10 ways to survive a ninja attack" It was hilarious... we shot it in DT TC... lol... oh my... we even had a person watching us from their apartment, cheering us on and clapping at one point. All I can tell you about it is this: Churck Norris was my body guard... and since we all know that the only thing Chuck Norris is afaid of is himself... it was pretty amusing. LOL.
I'll post it here when the editing is done. It was a great night. "Nigel," Katie, Sarah, Eric, Melissa, Ashley, Dan, Lindsey, and Alex... and our dear stuffed plush cat.. thank you for an amazing night in which God showed me once again... that he loves me dearly.
I'll see you ladies this Friday at our girl's night... gentlemen, I'll see most of you at the Well, but if not... may you not come into contact with ninjas... until we're there to film it, that is!
love,
Asher
